Having lived in Spain for almost a decade, and spent many great times enjoying different tapas bars over there, myself and my family felt inspired to bring an authentic Spanish experience to Liverpool.


We import much of the produce from Spain, with suppliers in Barcelona, Córdoba, Jaén and León. We support local suppliers for our fresh meat, fish & vegetables. Both restaurants were 2012 winners of a "Certificate of Excellence" from Tripadvisor, and we were nominated for the "Best Local Restaurant" in Gordon Ramsey's "F-Word" programme in 2010.

Valentine's Day - A Date for Sharing!

Its getting round to that time of year now when we can move on from those post-Christmas blues, start to get over the cold weather snap and start to look forward to better times ahead, one of which is Valentine's Day. This is a date that has a special place in the heart of everyone in Spain, which is a romantic latino country after all, so as they would say over there, "Que vivan los novios!"

This year we've put together a Valentine's Menu that we think will be that extra bit special for your loved one, or may well help impress anyone who you want to be your Valentine! This menu is designed especially to be shared, with a glass of Champagne each upon arrival, Spanish cheese & cured "Iberico" meat platter to start, choose 6 Valentine's Tapas (3 each) and finish off with some romantic desserts. We will also have 2 for 1 on Bellini's as our special cocktails on the Saturday evening, all night, for you to share with your Valentine.

Suckling Pig & Wine Pairing Evening

We are glad to announce that our next Tapas & Wine pairing evening is on Wednesday 29th October in Waterloo, and will start at 6:30pm. We still have a small number of tables available, so please call 0151 949 1151 to make your reservation soon if you would like to attend. Tickets are available for the bargain price of £25 per person.

The menu will consist of the following:

- Side order of Reserva Serrano ham, with instructed carving by Javier de la Hormaza.


- Fillet of Red Mullet with caramelised onion & fennel puree, served with pickled carrots, cucumber chutney & roasted cherry tomatoes. Paired with Enate Gewurztraminer

- Seared Lamb chop served on green Harrisa sauce, beetroot wafers & redcurrant jelly. Paired with Enate Crianza (Tempranillo-Cabernet Sauvignon).

- Suckling Pig stuffed with black pudding & chorizo, with picked radishes, pureed potato & red wine jus. Paired with Enate Syrah-Shiraz.

Our Spanish meat importer Javier de la Hormaza will be there on the evening to give a short introduction to the art of ham carving and also to talk about the star attraction of the evening, which is our Spanish Suckling Pig, which is imported fresh from Segovia.

We will be offering a starter portion of carved ham, followed by three courses of individual tapas, all paired with fabulous wines from the Enate Bodega in North East Spain, roughly between Barcelona and Zaragoza. Laura Mayoral, who is the European Manager for the winery and an expert in their wines, will be flying in from Spain to attend the event and talk to you about how the wines are produced and explain the background of the winery.

The wines will be paired with appropriate foods, and the Chardonnay is unlike any you will have tried before. It is a perfect match for the tender suckling pig, which is served in sliced portions. The secret to the dish is that the pig is allowed to suckle for 21 days, using natural farming processes to produce the best flavour, texture and crackling that you're likely to have tasted!

Big Changes in Our City Centre Venue

Rookwood Now Open

Our "Tapas Tapas" venue in Liverpool city centre, has now been completely refurbished to an incredibly high standard, and is now open as "Rookwood Bar & 'Cue." After 6 years of trading as Tapas Tapas, we felt that it was time to give the decor in the venue an overhaul. So we are very proud and excited to present Rookwood Bar & 'Cue to you all.


The menu still has a selection of "small plates" available, which can be eaten like tapas if you wish and don't want barbecued steak, burgers or fish, which are our mains now. Specifically, on our menu we still offer the aubergine & courgette fritters with honey, the Manchego & Serrano ham, chorizo skewers, King Prawns, ribs, squid as well as a Mushroom dish. We are still under the same ownership with all of the staff retained, so the service is still to the same high standards. A lot of our best sellers are still there, although we also have a fantastic imported Grillworks Barbecue from Michigan, USA, to grill our meats & fish to perfection for you. 


 Tapas Tapas is still going strong in South Road, Waterloo, and we are really looking forward to our big 10th birthday celebrations next year. Since we refurbished there last year, we have been busier than ever. We still very much love our Spanish tapas, and hope that you will pay us a visit there, should you miss the menu from our old Liverpool site.


So, how did Rookwood come about? Late last year, two things happened to create this great new concept. The first was that I tried some free range, grass fed, rare breed steaks and decided that they were up there with the best I'd ever tried in my life... and it was local, from Edge & Son butchers in the Wirral! Then, on my travels, I sampled some meats from an American Grillworks BBQ. I knew that we simply had to offer this combination to our customers in Liverpool. The grill was featured in the New York Times as the best live-fire grill available, giving a smokey BBQ flavour to food. The grill locks in flavour, using V-Channels to capture juices for re-basting the meat. There is only one other such grill in the UK, which is in "The Chiltern Fireworks" in Mayfair, London, which is a real celebrity haunt.


The meat offering is of great quality, so much so that the butcher has won BBC Retailer of the Year 2014. All of our meat is dry-aged for at least 30 days, which enhances flavours and brings out the best in the beef. I am sure that the combination of exceptional local meat, served with the American accent of our grill, will prove very popular. All of the team are really looking forward to this new challenge.


Our extensive refurbishments also include the installation of two new bars in the venue, both of which are open until 3am on weekends & 2am during the week. The downstairs bar in the Back Colquitt St side also offers informal bar food (no bookings necessary), such as burgers, ribs and new great value cuts of steak such as the Flatiron, as well as craft beer pairings. We will be stocking some outstanding beers, including local craft beers from Liverpool Craft & Mad Hatter, as well as American ales, beers from Belgium and Germany. Our staff have been training hard to give you advice on the best combinations, and they go really well with all of our meats. We will also soon be opening the basement “dive bar”, where we don't serve food, but have an amazing cocktail offer and an enormous range of great quality spirits. Both of these bars are a great place to just enjoy a quality drink, even if you don't fancy eating.

The restaurant area will now be on the top floor of the venue, and has a great chill-out bar. This bar will stay open until late on weekends after the restaurant closes, and we will offer booths & table service for drinks. It is an ideal spot to try our experimental cocktails! They include a “Molecular” Bloody Mary as well as a Smoked Coffee Old Fashioned, made by infusing smoke from whisky-soaked oak chips with bourbon and coffee, served smoking in a coffee percolator.

Artisan Tapas & Wine Evening, 24th April

Following on from the success of our first Tapas & Wine Pairing Evening in January, we will be hosting our second event, which will take place on Thursday 24th April in Waterloo from 6:30pm.

This event will give you the opportunity to meet one of our wine producers, with Neil Collins of Eurowines coming along to discuss the origins of his company's vineyards, and can talk you through how the different wines, how they are produced and the region where they come from.

Tickets are £29.95 per person, and will feature four exceptional wines to try each, from different regions across the world, which are paired with four courses of fabulous tapas dishes, including the following:

- Tapas Deli Board, including cured Spanish Iberico meats, olives & artisan breads

- Smoked Haddock & Crab Fishcakes, mixed leaves & mango salsa

- 1844 Mini-cumberland sausages, glazed in honey on a wholegrain mustard mash with caramelised onions

- Flatiron Steak from local, free range, rare breed cattle
